Celeb Twitter Round-Up: Leanne Manas Pours Water on Resignation Reports
False alarm, folks – Leanne Manas is NOT resigning from the SABC.
Manas has been working at the SABC since 2002, where she has become one of South Africa’s most recognisable broadcasters. So, you can imagine that folks were stunned to see reports swirling around claiming that the 52-year-old “Morning Live” veteran was hanging up her mic after she hadn’t been seen onscreen for a while.
Taking to her social media accounts most recently, Manas posted a lengthy statement that dispelled all these so-called reports:
“I have absolutely NOT resigned from the SABC!” she wrote. “I’m very much still part of the public broadcaster and will be back on your screens tomorrow after a beautiful week off! And while I’m at it, every TikTok account claiming to be me is FAKE. I have never posted a single thing on that platform.”
ICYDK, October is Manas’ birthday month, so clearly she’d been off to enjoy some R&R.
Naturally, folks in the comments sections across her accounts were relieved and rejoiced:
Others saw this as a lesson about the dangers posed by social media, especially when used by those who seek clout, monetary gain or just want to be trolls:
Indeed, it’s not the first time that con artists out there have taken advantage of celebs’ likenesses to make money, and it’s certainly not a situation that Manas is unfamiliar with. Last year, some fraudster used her likeness to promote some iffy investment scam:
Anyhoo, in the words of Leanne Manas herself – there you have it. She’s not going anywhere, and it looks like we’ll be seeing her tomorrow (and for days, weeks and years to come!):
